Widget support by player

Not every player can play every widget type. This page lists what plays on each platform today, and what the portal does when a display cannot play something on its plan.

  1. Vimeo on Samsung Tizen needs Samsung Tizen 6.5 or newer.
  2. Vimeo on Raspberry Pi can be left out for a few minutes when Vimeo turns the display away. It comes back on its own.
  3. Power BI and Display status do not play in older TV browsers, which get a reduced player automatically.
  4. Power BI on Samsung Tizen needs Samsung Tizen 6.5 or newer.

On Android, Amazon Fire TV, Vimeo, PDF, Google Slides, Outlook Calendar, News, RSS Feed and Display status need version 5.3.0 of the Signital app; a device on an earlier version skips them.

On Samsung Tizen, Vimeo, Power BI and Display status need version 3.1.0 of the Signital app; a device on an earlier version skips them.

On Raspberry Pi, YouTube, Vimeo, PDF, Canvas, Google Slides, Outlook Calendar, Power BI, Date & Time, News, RSS Feed, Ticker, Weather, Website, TV and Display status need version 2.1.0 of the Signital app; a device on an earlier version skips them.

A Playlist plays each of its items according to the rows above, and skips the ones the display cannot play.

What the portal does about it

The portal knows which player a display runs, and which version, once the display has connected. It then keeps what the display cannot play off that display, and tells you so.

WhereWhat you see
The display's pageThe item's preview is marked with a yellow warning, and the row says why, for example "Display status needs the Samsung Tizen app 3.1.0 or newer; this display runs 3.0.0."
A channel's pageThe row reads Unsupported on 1 display (or the number of displays). Hover it for the reasons.
+ Add to plan on the display's own planWidget types the display cannot play are greyed out. Hover one for the reason. On a shared channel nothing is greyed out, because other displays play it too.

The display is not sent the item, and the rest of its plan plays as usual. Other displays on the same channel still play it. If every item in a section is one the display cannot play, that section stays empty.

The warnings follow the device's own report. A display that has never connected, or a device that does not say which version it runs, gets no warning.

The Partial entries in the table above still play, so the portal does not warn about them. Neither does it warn about the Ticker on Samsung Tizen, which plays but shows no feed.

When a warning names a newer app version

The reason says which version of the Signital app the widget needs. Update the app on the device as its player guide describes, and the widget plays once the display has the new version. If the device already runs the newest version there is, the widget is not available on that platform yet; use another type or a different device for it.
