Web browser
Any device with a modern web browser can be a Signital display: a PC or Mac driving a monitor, a Chromebox, or the browser built into a TV. No installation is needed. It is the quickest way to see Signital working and a perfectly good way to run a display for real.
Before you start
- A device with a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or a TV with a built-in browser.
- The device connected to the display you want to show content on, unless the browser runs on the display itself.
- A display created in the portal. See Displays.
Connect the display
Open signital.tv on the device
In the browser on the device, go to signital.tv (opens in a new tab). The player loads and shows a 5-character pairing code and a QR code. The address is also in the portal: on the display's page press Connect, open Player not installed yet? and pick Web browser, where a Copy button sits beside it.
Enter the code in the portal
On the display's page press Connect and type the code into the five cells. The fifth character submits it. Or scan the QR code with your phone and tap the display in the list that opens.
The browser leaves the pairing code and starts playing whatever is published to the display.
The browser remembers the connection. Set it to open signital.tv on start, and the display comes back by itself after a power cut. The full pairing steps are in Connect a display.
Tips for this platform
- Fullscreen. Press
F11on Windows or Linux,Control + Command + Fon macOS. Most browsers also have Full screen in their menu. Press the same key again to leave it. - Kiosk mode. Chrome and Edge can be started with the
--kioskflag followed byhttps://signital.tv, which hides every control and survives a restart when placed in the device's startup items. A kiosk profile that clears its data on start forgets the connection, so keep the browser's stored data. - Sleep and screensavers. Turn off the device's sleep timer and screensaver, otherwise the display goes dark after a while.
- Nothing to install, nothing to update. The player updates itself whenever you reload the page.
If the browser is too old to run the current player, Signital serves a simpler player instead so that images and videos still show. Some widgets need the current player. Update the browser, or use a different device, if the display does not match the portal preview.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The page shows a pairing code again after it was connected | The browser's stored data was cleared, by a privacy setting or a kiosk profile that resets on start. Connect it again with the new code, and stop the browser clearing its data. |
| Content does not appear after connecting | Nothing is published to this display yet. See Publishing changes. |
| The player looks different from the portal preview | The browser is out of date. Update it, or try another browser. |
| The display shows IP address not allowed | The workspace limits which networks may connect. See Delivery. |
