Amazon Fire TV
A Fire TV Stick plugged into a TV's HDMI port makes an inexpensive Signital display. The Signital app comes from the Amazon Appstore and keeps itself up to date.
Before you start
- A Fire TV Stick plugged into the display and signed in to an Amazon account. A Prime subscription is not needed.
- The stick connected to the network.
- A display created in the portal. See Displays.
Install the Signital app
Update the stick
From the home page, open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and choose Check for Updates.
Install Signital
Back on the home page, open Search, type Signital, select the app and press Get or Download. The listing is also at amazon.co.uk/Dacoda-Signital/dp/B0CX5JNG3X (opens in a new tab).
Open it
Press Open. The app shows a 5-character pairing code.
Connect the display
- The TV shows a 5-character pairing code. The Fire TV app shows no QR code, because the Amazon Appstore does not allow one here.
- In the portal, open the display's page, press Connect and type the code. The fifth character submits it.

Start Signital when the stick starts
Turn this on once, so the display comes back by itself after a power cut.
- With Signital open, press the select button in the middle of the remote three times quickly. Player Settings opens.
- Turn on Auto-launch on boot.
- If the stick asks, allow Signital to Display over other apps. Fire TV needs that permission to start an app at boot.
Some Fire TV models have no Display over other apps setting, and Signital then says how to grant the permission from a computer with adb: adb shell appops set com.dacoda.signital.android SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW allow. Auto-launch on boot stays on and starts working once the permission is granted.
Widget support
Which widget types play on Amazon Fire TV, and which need a newer version of the Signital app, is listed in Widget support by player. The portal warns on anything on a display's plan that the display cannot play.
Tips for this platform
- Dedicate the stick to Signital. Other apps left running affect playback.
- Turn off the stick's screensaver under Settings › Display & Sounds › Screensaver, otherwise it interrupts playback after idle time.
- Restart and Identify work from the display page. Rebooting the stick itself remotely is not available. See Manage a device.
Troubleshooting

| The install fails | Clear the Appstore's cache under Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications › Appstore, then try again. |
| No pairing code when the app opens | Check the network connection, then close and reopen the app. |
| Signital does not start after the stick restarts | Check Auto-launch on boot in Player Settings, and that Signital may Display over other apps. See Start Signital when the stick starts. |
