Getting started

Getting started

From an empty workspace to a display playing your content. The portal walks you through the same steps in the Set up Signital panel at the bottom of the sidebar; this page explains each one.

The Set up Signital panel in the sidebar, showing the checklist with finished steps ticked and the next step expanded with its action button.
The setup panel ticks each step as your workspace fills in. You can Hide it at any time.

Start your free trial

Go to signital.app/register (opens in a new tab), enter your company name, address, email and a password, and press Start free trial. Your workspace is created and the panel's first step, Workspace created, is already ticked.

Add a location (optional)

A location is a site your displays are at. It groups displays on the Dashboard and Live Overview and sets their local time zone.

Go to Settings › Locations, press Add location, and fill in Name, Address and Timezone. The address places a pin on the map. You can skip this step and come back later. See Locations.

Add a display

The panel calls this step Add a screen. In the portal, go to Displays and press Add display. The Add Display dialog asks for:

  • Name, for example "Reception" or "Menu board left".
  • Channel. Leave it as it is for now; the display starts on its own plan.
  • Location, if you added one.
  • Orientation, landscape or portrait.
  • Notes, anything you want to remember about it.
The Add Display dialog with the Name, Channel, Location, Orientation and Notes fields.

Press Save. The display page opens with a Pairing code in the Device details card, because nothing is connected to it yet. That is the display's own code in the portal; the code you type in the next step comes from the device.

A display page for a display that is not connected yet. The Device details card shows a large pairing code and the Connect button.

Connect it

Install the Signital player on the device, or open signital.tv (opens in a new tab) in its browser. It shows a 5-character pairing code and a QR code. Then either:

  • On the display page press Connect and type the code into the five cells. The fifth character submits it.
  • Scan the QR code with your phone and tap the display in the list that opens.
The Connect display dialog with the five pairing code cells.

Player not installed yet? The section of that name in the dialog links to each platform's store or download. The full steps are in Connect a display and the Player guides. When the display connects, the pill in its header changes to Online.

Add content

The quickest first content is an image. Go to Media, press Upload a file or drag an image onto the page. It appears in the grid, and a widget of the same name is created for you.

The Media page's upload area, reading Upload a file or drag and drop.

You can also build a live widget under Widgets › Add widget, for example the weather or a clock. See Widgets.

Put it on the display

Go back to the display page. In the Scheduled plan card press + Add to plan. The wizard has three steps:

  1. Choose a widget. Pick Image.
  2. Select your media. Pick the image you uploaded.
  3. Set the schedule. Leave Always show selected and press Add to plan.
The third step of the Add to plan wizard, with Always show selected and the Duration field visible.

The item is now on the plan, but only as a draft. Press Publish changes in the page header. Within a few seconds the display shows your image. See Add to plan and Publishing changes.

Invite the team (optional)

Go to Settings › Users, press Add user, and fill in Name, Email, Role and a password. Colleagues can then publish without you. See Users & roles.

You're live

When the four required steps are done, the panel shows You're live. Press Done and it changes into Get more out of Signital, a short list of suggestions. Each one opens to a sentence of explanation and a Show me where button that takes you to the right place. They disappear on their own once you have done them.
