Android

The Signital app runs on Android TV boxes, Google TV devices and Android-based signage panels. It plays content natively, caches media so playback survives a dropped connection, and keeps itself up to date.

Before you start

  • An Android device connected to the display and to the network.
  • A display created in the portal. See Displays.

Install the Signital app

  1. Open the Google Play Store on the device.
  2. Search for Signital and select the Signital app.
  3. Press Install, then Open.

The direct listing is play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dacoda.signital.android (opens in a new tab). Store builds update themselves through Google Play.

Connect the display

  1. Open the Signital app. It shows a 5-character pairing code and a QR code.
  2. In the portal, open the display's page, press Connect and type the code. The fifth character submits it. Or scan the QR code with your phone and tap the display.

The full steps are in Connect a display.

Tips for this platform

  • Set the Signital app to launch when the device starts. On most Android TV devices this is under the launcher's or the device's settings.
  • Dedicate the device to Signital. Other apps running in the background take memory from video playback.
  • Restart and Identify work from the display page. Rebooting the device's operating system remotely is not available on Android. See Manage a device.

Amazon Fire TV runs the same app from the Amazon Appstore. Its guide is here.
