BrightSign

BrightSign

BrightSign players are purpose-built signage hardware. Signital is set up on them through BrightSign's own BrightAuthor:Connected software, which writes a setup to a microSD card. Once configured, the player boots straight into Signital.

Before you start

  • A BrightSign player from the LS, HD, XD or XT series with a network connection.
  • A microSD card of at least 1 GB, formatted FAT32.
  • A computer with BrightAuthor:Connected (opens in a new tab) installed, and a BrightSign account to sign in with. Signing in is what makes the Partner App option appear.
  • A display created in the portal. See Displays.

Install the Signital app

Sign in to BrightAuthor:Connected

Open the software and press Sign In in the top-right corner. Enter your BrightSign account.

Open the setup wizard

Choose the Admin tab, then Setup.

Name the player

Under general settings, enter a Setup Name and a Player Name. Choose Append Player ID if you are setting up more than one player, so they stay distinguishable. Pick the player's time zone.

Choose Signital as the publishing mode

Under Publishing Mode, choose Partner App and select Signital - Digital Signage.

Configure the network

Tick Include network configuration and choose Ethernet or Wi-Fi. For Wi-Fi, enter the network name and password. Use current player settings keeps whatever the player already has.

Turn on automatic updates

Under BrightSignOS Update, find your player model and select Latest released OS.

Save the setup to the microSD card

Press Save Setup. If you are configuring several players, Add Setup to Library saves it for reuse. Write the setup to the microSD card and eject it safely.

Boot the player

Insert the card into the player's SD slot and connect power. The player boots, connects to the network and loads Signital, which shows a 5-character pairing code.

Connect the display

  1. The display shows a 5-character pairing code and a QR code.
  2. In the portal, open the display's page, press Connect and type the code. The fifth character submits it. Or scan the QR code with your phone and tap the display.

The full steps are in Connect a display.

Tips for this platform

  • A BrightSign player has no browser or launcher to escape to, which makes it the most robust choice for unattended displays.
  • Restart works from the display page. Rebooting the player's operating system remotely is not available on BrightSign yet. See Manage a device.
  • The Signital player on BrightSign updates itself. Only the operating system needs BrightSign's own update, which the setup above turns on.
