Publishing changes
Nothing you change on a plan reaches a display until you press Publish changes. Until then the edit is a draft: the display keeps playing what it had, and the page and its card carry an Unpublished pill.
Draft and published
Every display, channel and playlist has two versions: the published one, which displays play, and a draft, which is what you see and edit in the portal. Adding, editing, removing or reordering items and changing the layout all go into the draft. Publishing promotes the draft and opens a fresh one.
This is deliberate. You can rebuild a whole channel during the day and release it in one go, and a half-finished change never shows on a wall.

The Publish changes button
It sits in the page header of every plan page.

| Page | What Publish changes covers | Who is affected |
|---|---|---|
| Display page | The display's own plan, and the shared channel it follows, if any. | This display, plus every display following that channel. |
| Channel page | The channel's plan and layout. | Every display following the channel. |
| Playlist page | The playlist's items. | Every channel and display that plays the playlist. |
A toast confirms Successfully published! and the Unpublished pill disappears.
Publishing a shared channel or a playlist changes every display that uses it, at once. Check the Active on line in its details card first. See Channels.
When the display picks it up
An online display is told about the publish and fetches the new plan within a few seconds. An offline display fetches it the next time it connects. The Last published fact in the display's Device details card shows when it last happened.
If a display keeps showing the old content, see Troubleshooting. Restart under Manage device makes the player fetch its plan again.
Previewing before you publish
- The Preview card on a display or channel page renders the draft, so you can see the change before anyone else does.
- Live preview on the same card opens the published version, the one displays are playing now.
What does not need publishing
Changes to a widget's settings and a media rename reach displays as soon as you save them. A display's name, location and notes are portal facts and need no publish either, and the Screen schedule applies when you press Save schedule. Only the plan itself, what plays and when, waits for Publish changes.
