Analytics

Analytics

Proof-of-play analytics answer two questions: what did each display actually play, and for how long was it online? The Analytics page in the sidebar shows both across the fleet, per display and per widget, for any period in the last 70 days.

Available on the Business plan, and only after Proof-of-play analytics is switched on under General. The Analytics entry appears in the sidebar only on Business.

The Analytics page with the Period selector, the Total played time and Online displays figures, and the Displays tab listing each display's total played time, online status and last connection.

Switching it on

Two things must be true before any data is recorded:

  1. The workspace is on the Business plan. On Standard the page shows Analytics is not available on your plan with the line "Upgrade to the Business plan to unlock proof-of-play analytics. After upgrading, enable analytics in settings to start tracking." and an Upgrade now button.
  2. Proof-of-play analytics is on under Settings › General. Until it is, the page shows Analytics is disabled with a Go to settings button.
The Analytics page on the Standard plan, covered by the Analytics is not available on your plan overlay with an Upgrade now button.

Recording starts from the moment the switch goes on. There is no data for the time before, so switch it on as soon as you upgrade if you want a full month.

When figures appear

Displays send their playback logs through the day, but the figures on these pages are built once a night, shortly after 04:00 UTC, from the previous day's logs.

  • Yesterday and every earlier period are complete from the morning after.
  • Today stays empty, or shows only what the nightly build has already processed, until tomorrow morning. For a live view of a single display use its View logs page, described below.
  • Figures are kept for 70 days. Last 30 days and Last month always fit; anything older is gone.

The Analytics page

The header reads Playback across N displays and M widgets and holds the Period selector: Today, Yesterday, This week, Last week, This month, Last month, Last 30 days. The period you pick is kept as you move between the analytics pages.

Two figures sit under it:

FigureMeaning
Total played timeEvery second of content played on every display in the period, added up.
Online displaysHow many different displays played something during the period.

Then two tabs, Displays and Widgets, each with its count, and a search box. The Widgets tab adds a Widget type selector, All types by default, to narrow the list to one kind of widget.

Displays tab

ColumnMeaning
DisplayName, with a green or red dot for whether it was online in the period.
LocationIts location, if any.
Total playedHours and minutes of content it played.
Online statusShare of the period it was online, as a bar. Bars are scaled against the highest display in the list, not against 100%.
Last connectedWhen it last checked in.
DetailsOpens the display's own analytics page.

Widgets tab

ColumnMeaning
WidgetThumbnail and name.
TypeThe widget type, for example IMAGE or WEATHER.
Play countHow many times it was shown, as a bar scaled against the highest widget in the list.
Total playedHours and minutes it was on a display.
DisplaysHow many displays showed it.
DetailsOpens the widget's own analytics page.

With no data for the period either tab reads Nothing played yet. With a search or type filter that matches nothing it reads No matches for these filters.

One display

Details on a display row opens a page named after the display, with the same Period selector and three figures: Total play time, Last connected and Online status as a percentage with a bar.

Under them, Widgets played lists every widget the display showed in the period, ranked by play count: Widget name, State (active or inactive), Play count and Total play time.

The 24-hour log

View logs in the header opens Log of player activity last 24 hours, the one analytics page that is live rather than nightly. Press Refresh to fetch the latest. Each row is one item played: Widget name, Type, Status, Duration, Started at, Finished at. Between them, full-width rows mark what happened on the device:

RowMeaning
Player connectedThe player started and connected to Signital.
Synced successfullyThe player fetched its latest published plan.
Network errorThe player lost its connection. Content on the device keeps playing from cache.
A striped row reading, for example, 2 minutes and 30 seconds of no contentA gap with nothing playing.

This is the page to open when a display is reported blank or stuck: it shows whether the player was running and whether items were completing. See Troubleshooting.

One widget

Details on a widget row opens a page named after the widget with its Type, Total play time, Displays and Play count for the period, beside a preview of the widget. Below, one row per display that showed it, with Display, Location, State, Play count and Total play time. A widget with no plays in the period reads Not played yet.

What is not counted

  • Time when a display is showing its default widget because nothing is scheduled is not attributed to a widget, so it does not appear in Widgets played.
  • A playlist counts its items, not the playlist itself.
  • Time when Proof-of-play analytics was switched off is missing entirely, and cannot be recovered by switching it back on.
